Wim’s Looks-like Prototype

Wim is a company that has a moonshot idea to eliminate single used plastic bottle waste. The way that we are achieving this is to create a network of smart kiosks where people can subscribe and get beverages from. When they are done with the beverage, they can return the bottle to the kiosks, where the bottle will then be cleaned, serialized, and refilled for the next person to use. This Looks-like prototype that I built as a technical cofounder allowed us to test out the user interaction with the station and experiences.

In order to create this prototype, we bought an off the shelf vending machine. We then gutted out the vending machine, added and designed customs components so that the machine can both vend a beverage and also accept returned bottle for cleaning. Below is a video of the working looks-like prototype that was deployed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where we successfully eliminated over 5000 plastic bottle wastes. Also, there are images of the different stages of the prototype taking form.

Machine in Action

These videos were filmed in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where we attracted many users, including a famous comedian Hannibal Buress who featured us in a IG story.
